How much would you do to help save the environment?
I have decided to live a cleaner, greener life. With all the strange natural phenomenons that have been occurirng (hurricanes, melting ice caps) I feel like I need to do more. I recycle, use energy-saving light bulbs, but there is so much more I can do. I’m thinking of taking the bus to work instead of driving my Jeep. Unfortunately the bus stop is 1 mile from my office. Am I crazy to want to do this or just really ambitious about saving the environment? Think of something you could do to live a greener life that requires some type of sacrifice – would you do it? Tell me what you think.

You know, I had a similar ipihiny this weekend. I too want to do my part to save this planet we call home. With it’s beautiful sky, changing terrians and crystal blue ocean not to mention the people we call family. It has done a wonderful job supporting my life, my families life and strangers lives. I think the least I could do for it, is try to support it’s life.
I want to live “greener”, and all that really boils down to is living more modestly. My husband and I don’t need a large house to raise our children in, my mom along with her 3 sisters and little brother lived in a 1200 square foot home, and quite honestly I think that they turned out better than we did. They are more family orientated were as we have become less about family and more materialistic.
We really don’t need a lot. A roof over our heads, clothes on our back and food in our bellies…look around what do we have around us that is extra? We don’t need huge vehicles, huge homes or most of the “extra” that we have in our lives. We are not talking about go back with technology we are talking taking a major step forward by Living “Smarter”.
Can you imagine the life? Less dirty cars on the road, cleaner air for us and our children. Communities would become tighter nit. Things would slow down though, really slow. We may even find the time for eachother. What a concept!
Sorry I ranted. But man, I am motivated. I feel as though a light when off in my head…and it finally woke me up.
Good luck with your march. Spread the word and maybe we can motivate others to start caring about this beautiful planet Mother Earth.

Energy Use Monotoring by utility companies?
I had always thought that saving energy by not using it was a hugely untapped area where lack of motivation was a factor.
I would like utility companies to provide online statistics from a competitive prospective regarding who is using less energy than they did last year. If my kids school came home with a energy saving contest that was monitored by utility companies, I assure you that every kid in the school would be shutting off lights and turning the heat down and the air up.
Any ideas on how I could start something like this?

Every electric bill from my company shows my energy usage for each month so they must have some info they can display about area usage.

We could just make it last longer I guess.I mean we cant `save it‘ everyone is always going to use energy(regardless of how mutch) trying to save energy and things like that can make a difference but wouldnt `save our planet’ because ppl are always going to use energy. the only way to `save it forever;(or until God or a meteorite comes or something) we would have to stop using energy what so ever! I know nuclear energy makes a big difference but somewhere someone is always going to be using` bad for the enviroment’ energy.What do you think? sure we can use other beter for the planet energy like nuclear power(like if every country went nuclear) but somwhere someone is always going to be using `bad for the enviroment energy‘ so…and I know energy usage doesn`t alone cause climate change..but it contributes and this might put this `save‘ the planet thing at rest.bcause I guess we`ll never stop using some sort of energy so making this earth last as long as possible,maby not `saving it
I think thats a more realistic approch.making it last for our kids to enjoy and if other generations survive…..What do you think? yes energy might not even realy be causing climate change that mutch but it might be a more realistic approch.

Saving it is close to the same as lengthening it’s time. They are probably working on both of them, as recycling even lets us last longer. You are right that it is a good idea to lengthen its time, but we are trying to save it. One day, Earth will be too crowded, so we really can’t save it forever. Saving it is pretty much the same as lengthening it.

I know this is in the wrong catagory but I need few more answers…..I now we can use alternate sources of energy like solar panels and nuclear energy but someon somewhere is always going to us `bad for the enviroment energy‘I guess ikn
