Energy Transfer?
__________ is the energy transfer process that is most important in the transfer of energy from the Earth’s surface into the atmosphere
adminsta answers:
Conduction (from solid to a nearby gas)
transfer of heat within atmosphere is convection (warm air rises up)
and from sun to earth is radiation.

Linda asks…
energy transfer?
i have an overall conclusion of what this is suppost to mean, but not really…. so in a plant life cycle, what exactly is the energy transfer? the heat evergy tranfering?
thank you
adminsta answers:
Let us look at the basics from plant point of view.
1) When a leaf is illuminated by the sunlight . The light energy is trapped with the help of chlorophyll molecules and out of CO2 and H2O ( Carbon dioxide and water) C6 H12 O6 i.e. Glucose is synthesized .( All of us call it PHOTOSYNTHESIS.)
This is the first energy transfer ( From Sun to Glucose ) and only green plants with their chlorophyll can do it.
2) This energy in glucose is used in respiration and many plant functions are accomplished.
This is just as we use dry cells for our electronic equipments.
3) The excess energy if any is converted from glucose to starch with in the plant body itself and stored in various storage organs ( Potato, sweet potato , cassava , seeds grains) . This is another energy transfer . In fact entire plant body grows in this manner .
4 ) When we eat vegetable matter including the items mentioned above in the bracket ; the energy is transferred to our bodies and utilised it to sustain our bodies.
This is yet another energy transfer .
5) In the plant body it self when different tissues are produced , such as parenchyma , sclrenchyma , Xylem etc. The energy is transferred to them and stored.
In all the cases above the original energy source on this planet is THE SUN AND SUN ONLY.
Why dry grass burns ? It gives out the stored energy ( Originally received from the Sun ) in the form of heat and light.
Why cow eats grass? It can sustain and grow on the energy received from it ( Originally —— from the Son.)
Why paper and cotton burn ? Now you know.
Why vegetable oil and fat can burn ? You know it by now !
In fact each and every organic material derived from the plants ( Directly == like wood or indirectly like fossil fuel ) burns and gives out heat and or light ; you can be sure that it is the Sun’s energy captured during photosynthesis is being released NOW!

John asks…
How much thermal energy transfer is required to maintain constant temperature when?
How much thermal energy transfer is required to maintain constant temperature when 20.200000000000003 g of liquid water decompose to the elements hydrogen and oxygen at 25.0°C?
?H for this process is -285.8 kJ per mole of liquid water
Enter the magnitude of the energy transfer, that is do not include a plus or negative sign.
adminsta answers:
The molar mass of water, M ,is 18 g/mol and m is the actual mass then the number of mols of water are:
n= m/M = 20.200 / 18 = 1.122 mol
The heat Hr removed from or put in to mthe system is Hr= n* hr
=> Hr = 1.122* (-285.8) KJ = -320.394 KJ
The Heat is negative so 320.394 KJ must be removed in order to keep temperature of the system constant.

Laura asks…
How is energy transfer taken into account when designing and making clothing?
I need this question answered for my science assignment. I’m basically talking about the transfer of energy taken into account when designing and making clothing, specifically spacesuits.
adminsta answers:
Specifically spacesuits have to be designed in a way that energy in form of radiation turning to heat on its surface have to be reflected, or isolated against inner layers of the suit.
On the other hand if the astronaut does a spacewalk in the shadow the suit starts to radiate heat away, since insulation is never perfect.
So along with a system for cooling the suit and heating the suit there is another system being build in to distribute local spots of heat to the entire inner suit.
Heat can be convected, radiated or conducted. And all design is to have the innermost of the suit comfy in all spots regardless what the outer circumstances are.

What is the difference between energy transformation and energy transfer?
Q1. What is the main energy transformation that takes place in
(a) an electric fan
(b) a television
(c) wood fire
Q2. What is the difference between energy transformation and energy transfer? give example
adminsta answers:
Here are the answers:
1. In an electric fan, from electrical energy to mechanical energy
2. In a television, from electrical energy to sound energy
3. In a wood fire, from heat energy to light energy
Energy Transformation is any process of transforming one form of energy to another.
Energy Transfer is the process of transfering energy from one body to another.
Energy is the ability to do work. It is one of the basic human needs and is an essential component in any development programme. The forms that energy exists are namely: heat, light, sound, electrical, chemical, nuclear and mechanical. These forms of energy may be transformed from one form to the other, usually with losses.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Energy Transformation or energy conversion, is any process of transforming one form of energy into another. Energy of fossil fuels, solar radiation, or nuclear fuels can be converted into other energy forms such as electrical, propulsive, or heating that are more useful to people. Often, machines are used to transform energy. The efficiency of a machine characterizes how well (how efficiently) it can produce a useful output (such as work for example) through such a conversion. Energy transformations are important in the application of the energy concept in various natural sciences including biology, chemistry, geology and cosmology.
Energy may be transformed so that it may be used by other natural processes or machines, or else to provide some service to society (such as heat, light, or motion). For example, an internal combustion engine converts the potential chemical energy in gasoline and oxygen into the propulsive energy that moves a vehicle. A solar cell converts solar radiation into electrical energy that can then be used to light a bulb or power a computer. The generic name for a device which converts energy from one form to another is transducer.
Other energy conversions
There are many different machines that convert one energy form into another:
Fuel cells (Chemical energy ? Electricity)
Geothermal power (Heat ? Electricity)
Heat engines, such as the internal combustion engine used in cars or the steam engine (Heat ? Electricity)
Hydroelectric dams (Mechanical energy ? Electricity)
Lamp (Chemical energy ? Heat and Light)
Microphone (Sound ? Electricity)
Nuclear reactor (Nuclear energy ? Electricity)
Ocean thermal power (Heat ? Electricity)
Solar cells (Light ? Electricity)
Solar thermal (Light ? Heat)
Loudspeaker (Electricity ? Sound)
Thermophotovoltaics (Heat ? Electricity)
Steam engine (Heat ? Mechanical energy)
Wave power (Mechanical energy ? Electricity)
Windmills (Wind energy ? Electricity or Mechanical energy)
Piezoelectrics (Sound ? Electricity)
Energy Transfer
In physics, energy transfer describes the process of transferring energy from one body to another. In other words if you were to drop a book into a pool, the kinetic energy from this book will transfer into the water causing it to make a splash and creating waves. Some energy may also be transferred into the air in the form of sound.
In chemistry, the term may be used to describe the process of transferring vibrational energy from one molecule (or molecular domain) to another molecule (or molecular domain).
Good luck to you.

Michael asks…
What type of energy transfer is a ball rotating a piece of wood?
What type of energy transfer is a ball rolling and then hitting piece of wood that when hit well then spin round and hit a bell?
adminsta answers:
It is conservation of momentum.
If we go to some basic we may say its inertia of motion that is conserved.
P=mv
because p1=p2
m1v1=m2v2
That is momentum of both the balls and finally the bells are equal.
This can also be seen as transfer of energy….when the second ball hit the bell it transferd mechanical energy to sound!!
