How much energy does a Plasma Screen TV really consume?
I bought one of those plug in energy meter things to measure how much energy my appliances are consuming.
My 46″ LCD TV is rated at 260W. But in actual fact it was only using 205W because of brightness settings, backlight settings etc. I then twiddled around with the settings lowering the brightness, backlight and put the Energy saving setting (which dims the backlight furth) to high and got a reading of only 77 watts but the picture is too dark.
So I have now put the energy saving setting on Medium to make the picture brighter for everyday use so it is using 89watts and a button to make it brighter when needed, like in daytime viewing, which bumps it up to 147 watts.
Any way, I just wanted to know if any Plasma screen owners have done the same thing and what were their results on measuring the actual electricty consumption.

Hello my sister got a 50″ samsung plasma and I tested its power usage with a very accurate HEME ISO 2000 clamp meter it consumes 524 watts on the settings she uses from day to day , my 52″ Sony LCD tv uses 282 watts, I often wonder what the sales figures of plasma TVs would be if people were made fully aware of just how power hungry plasma TVs are and I think you are a star for being interested in what everyday electronic items use in terms of watts, its a Great pity to me that most are just not bothered about energy wastage, maybe one day in the future when a barrel of oil cost $400 or more maybe then people will be bothered.

How efficient do you feel the Door in a Door Refrigerator really is?
I am just curious if anyone has done any studies, and curious to see how much energy the smaller door would save.

Im thinking that the cost and installation may over ride any savings for a while. You will loose door storage space and it will become a shelf which means it will stay open even longer. What you really need is a clear door so you can see what you are getting before you get it!

what kind of effects does marijuana have on a new born?
i cant afford to live in a place without my mom cause i have to work and have my mom watch my child. but my older brother lives with us and i caught him smoking weed in his room. second hand smoke goes through the cracks of the door and through the vents. and i got furious cause my new born is in the room across from his. he said he wouldnt do it anymore but i caught him again! i would just leave but i cant afford to live anywhere else right now without my moms help. does anyone know where i can get some pictures of a baby effected by marijuana or some info to show him what he has done to her the last couple of days( we just got this place on the 19th so we have only lived with each other 2 days.) to make her stop or i will insist on him leaving or me and my daughter leaving to another relatives or something.
and also if you dont have an answer that answers my question and all you got to do is critisize me or make jokes,save your energy, grow up, and i dont mind reporting you at all

I agree with the lady above, let your brother know that he can get arrested not only for drug use and drug possession but endangering the life of a child. Let him know that you are no longer going to give warnings, that the next time he is caught you are going to call the cops and let them take care of him. That is what I would do you shouldn’t have to put up with that and your daughter for sure shouldn’t either she is an innocent young baby, tell him how would he feel if she had learning problems when she gets older because of his drug use. Seriously tear down on him and let him know that you are serious, worse comes to worse make that phone call to the police. Good luck and I hope he makes the right choice in quitting at least around your daughter

AND YES IT DOES MATTER IF HE IS SMOKING IT IN THE HOUSE OR NOT BECAUSE THE SMOKE CAN GO THROUGH THE AIR DUCTS OF THE HOUSE AND THE BABY WOULD BE OPEN TO BREATHING THEM IN. READ UP ON SIDS ( SUDDEN INFANT DEATH SYNDROME ) THEY SAY THAT THE LEADING CAUSE TO SIDS IS A MOTHER SMOKING DURING PREGNANCY AND/OR SMOKING AROUND A BABY ESPECIALLY AN INFANT. Saving energy on pumping. Pneumatic, variable or…?
Need to come up with a system to pump water to 50 homes. Storage tank to be at ground level, stone´s throw distance away. In order not to have a full capacity pump (of about 5HP) into 2″ pipe turning FULLY on if only 1 faucet is open, what are the options?
Should I consider a large pneumatic tank?
Should I consider a variable speed pump?
Is one method more energy efficient than the other?
As I understand, the variable speed pump option has the benefit of drastically reducing the oscillating pressure vs. the turn ON/OFF of the pneumatic. Is this the whole picture?
Is there any other way?

Any water system with a pump, even a well for a single dwelling like mine, has a tank with flexible membrane that stores pressure.
For 50 homes you need to do the same. My point is that there are commercial tanks available to do this, I suspect.
Skip the variable speed pump, the controls get too complicated. Just a big tank, sealed, half filled with water, half with air. A flexible membrane between them. One opening on the bottom for the pipe. How big, there are probably tables. For a single dwelling I had a 20 gallon tank. For 50 dwellings you won’t need something 50 times bigger, I suspect 200 gal would do.

Well saving energy.. What are things that conserve, save and help the earth.. Sun, water, wind etc.
Windmills- they save and generate energy by the wind blowing the giant fans which generate power/ energy. Like a battery or so.
You could draw/paint a huge field of grassy plains with a bunch of windmills with a blue sky. And in the sky, if you paint or whatever color you use, add differant colors. Like thin waves of white-blue etc to make more of a wind stroke, like a long line of whitish blue with it ending in a white swirl. Looks like wind.
I like art that makes people think like who what when where.. So maybe draw a little barn in the distance?
Or a road that goes in the horizon.

Need help with science homework! ( really easy)?
Ok, I know this is the wrong category, but I really need help, and lots of people look for questions here. Ok I have a project at school for science and we have to make posters that advertise energy conservation. My title is ” Save Energy!” but what kind of pictures can I draw? What should I write? Do you have any good sayings? Ok so I know/ you are pretty much doing the project for me but no, I will be the one drawing or writing it down and I might change what you suggest a little bit. So thanks a lot for helping!

Draw pictures of those thinks that spin and r white with three blades…i forget what there called. Oh and you can draw the bad side and the good side like on the bad side have pollution and death and on the good side have green meadows and pretty stuff your slogan can be Come to the good side we have (what eva ur learning) write on how bad pollution is and how conserving energy is cool!!!

The tip box has a picture of an energy saving light bulb.
I think energy saving bulbs are crap and Yahoo should replace it with an ordinary incandescent bulb. Am I a genius or just above average in terms of intelligence?

I suppose you have a point in that the light bulb I always assumed was the symbol for an idea because it just suddenly hits you just like a light suddenly turns on but these energy saving ones don’t do that, they just slowly warm up therefore representing that Yahoo!’s ideas aren’t… OK it’s too late to think about this too much. I’m giving up on this answer now, work out what I mean by yourself.
