Mark Your Questions About How To Conserve Energy On A Laptop

Mark asks…

How can my laptop conserve more energy when it’s on its battery?

I own an HP Pavilion dv6000 with Windows Vista, and it only lasts about 2-4 hours on its battery (when it is not on sleep). What can I do to conserve more energy when it’s on its battery? I already know about changing how bright the laptop screen is.

adminsta answers:

Well you could do some of the following: (If your computer has power saving options; most laptops do)

- Turn down the brightness of the monitor.
- Turn down the processor speed
- Turn off peripherals that are not in use (If you’re using the LAN connection turn off wireless connection, if using wireless disable LAN).
- Use headphones instead of the laptop speakers
- Shy away from watching movies (Power hog)
- Shy away from hard-core gaming (Power hog)
- Turn off the flashy animations in Vista (Power hog)

Just remember: The more things you have running the harder your computer needs to work; thus draining more battery. Changing the brightness of the screen and CPU speed will increase your battery life by a BUNCH.

Hopefully this answers your question!
Cheers.

Chris asks…

How do I keep internet connection on laptop?

My laptop connected to a wireless network, and my xbox 360 is connected to the laptop by an ethernet cable. When my laptop goes into conserving energy mode (when its not being used, etc) the internet disconnects, then I disconnect from Xbox Live. How can I prevent this from happening?
Is there a way where I can set the internet to stay connected? Thanks everyone your help is great.
Also I’m currently running on Windows Vista Home Premium
I found a way, I just have to right click on power options, then choose “Do nothing” when I close the lid. Thanks guys
