Mandy asks…
Is the use of wind energy (wind turbines) more advantageous or less advantageous? Why?
Make some details of your answers please. Thank you!
adminsta answers:
Wind turbines don’t pollute the environment too much. Occasionally a bird will hit them. Here is a site that clearly states advantages and disadvantages.

Lisa asks…
how do you create energy from wind turbines?
is the same as in a thermal power stasion but insted of using steam you use wind?
adminsta answers:
You cannot create energy, as Eienstien said the amount of Energy in the universe is constan, all you can do is change wind into electrical
basically the wind turns a big sail, the sail turns a shaft that drives via a gearbox the generator, the magnetic movemement in a coil converts the rotational enegy into electrical enegy.
This is basically the same method all electric is generated, just something else is used to provided the rotational movement

So we can use wind turbines to generation Energy, ie Wind Power. The Earth has many more powerful elements … Could these be harvested to create Power?
adminsta answers:
Yes we can. We just have to be weened off of nuclear and oil generated power. Many companies would be hurting and many people would be out of the job if we switched to natural power over night. We are slowly but surly switching to natural power. California is using tidal power for some things. Some places are using wind power. The ecological park down the hill from me gets their power from the sun. Some houses on my road have solar panels on their roofs for solar power. We are slowly heading in the right direction. Some companies and other places use geothermal energy (heat from the Earth’s interior for power).

Maria asks…
How much energy do wind turbines produce each year?
In general is all I am asking.
adminsta answers:
Turbines on average produce 35% of their listed power output. Some pruduce more, some less. Some are in the 50w size, some are 5Mw in size.

Steven asks…
How is energy from wind turbines stored for later use? (10 points)?
I need the information to do a science project – how is this electrical energy stored?
Edit: What are the waste byproducts of this form of energy?
adminsta answers:
It’s funny you should ask because I was just researching the wind energy subject while looking at getting a job with a company that makes generators.
Generally I’ve found that it isn’t!
Wind power is usually expected to be supplimental to the power grid because you can’t depend on it 24/7. The only exceptions to this are remote areas where they have no power grid access and even then they usually have diesel generators too. I have seen small ones on sailing boats where I’m sure it just tops up their batteries.
Waste byproducts are zero or even negative. I say negative because in a lot of places the excess power is fed back into the power grid reducing the need for the other power stations to pollute as much.
In fact the only bad things I’ve heard are from those that think they are an eye sore, those that think they are noisy (which generally are not) and those that think birds will crash into them. It’s funny that they don’t complain about the glowing ones that nest at my local nuke generating plant tho ;o)
