adminsta answers:

Hi, don’t worry word problems suck.
First what grade r u in?
I am in 8th and this sounds like algebra or pre-algebra, just wanted to know.

A) the answer is 27,000. They authors r trying to trick u by putting too much info. All you have to do is .09 (your percent) times 300,000 (the price of your house) = 27,000 (your commission)

b) The answer is 535. Again they are giving you too much info, all you have to do is
.07 (percent) times 500 (price) = 35 (your tax) now you add your price and tax and you get what you owe – 535

c) The answer is “the price will be 1100 more. Te people want to know how much the actual tax will be so all you have to do is – 20,000 (price) times .055 (tax %) = 1100 (actual tax)

d) The answer is 828.8. First you have to find out the interest. The rate is 12% so you do-
.12 (rate) times 1 (number of years) times the 740 (original amount) = 88.8 which you add to your original and get 828.8 (amount you pay)

e) The answer is 4yds. By 3yds. There are 3 ft in 1 yd. The people only want to know the dimensions so you divide the 12 by 3 and the 9(number of ft) by 3(number ft in yds)

f) The answer is 18’684.54mi/h. The equation is 27’404 ( feet per second) times .68181 (number of miles per hour in a foot per hour) = 18’684 (the number of miles per hour)
1 foot per second = 0.681818182 miles per hour

g) the answer is 171 inches. All you have to do is- 14.25(number of feet) times 12 (number of inches in a foot) = 171 (number of inches in 14.25 ft.)

h)I am a bit unsure bout this one but i think it is 36 cubic inches. First- 3 (number of cubic feet) times 12(inches in a foot) 36 cubic inches.

I) the answer is 256. There are 16 ounces in a pound. So you- 16(number of pounds) times 16(number of ounces

j) THe answer is 760. The equation C= (F-32) times 5/9
So you do 1400 (F) – 32 = 1368 times 5/9 = 760 (C)

k) The answer is 1hr and 55 min. First you convert the hours to minutes so it is 142 min for Jake.
Then you do 142 (Jake) – 27 (how much faster Jill did hers) = 115 (Jill) and then you convert to hours – 1hr and 55min.

Hope this helped – Tanu
