I have thought of a way for free electricity?
Solar panels on every house and a small wind turbine would produce free electric for every house….Agreed?
I believe aeroplanes have a little propellor deployed to provide enough electric power to land a jumbo.
adminsta answers:
That would only work if we consumed less electricity than we currently do. Or solar and wind electricity generation became drastically more efficiant than it is now(don’t forget to factor in manufacture) or we all had very large roofs that could house a lot of solar cells. Or a combination of all the above. Otherwise we would still have to top up with fossil fuels. Great idea tho.

Laura asks…
Would would you do if you won the lottery?
Like if you won about 5 million, what would you do?
I think I would first buy a house, but I like small quaint little houses, then I would have a holiday for a few months and I would pay off bills and things. Then I would donate some into building wind turbines and I would donate some to other charities and then save the rest.

5 million?
It’s not enough to build my dream house but it will do XD
My mom is very frail but we don’t have enough money to move to a warmer place, so the first thing is to move to Georgia.
My dad always had the fantasy of living in a rich neighborhood with huge houses, but he grew up in a poor family. So there we go wish granted(:
Next, my younger sister LOVES swimming. But we have to travel really far to get to a pool, why not buy a Indoor pool so she can swim all the time?
Update my parents style to 21st century. Lol XD
I’m really into tea sets but there SOOO expensive, now I can buy all sets that I wanted.
A personalized music box for my mom, She wanted this tune but i could never find one under $150 and doesn’t look cheap.
Music/Tune/Piece: Salut d’ amour
Next I’d buy Pretty Dresses….
Laser eye surgery, I’m almost blind without my glasses which were stepped on.
My mom likes to paint but canvases, high quality paints, and brushes are expensive to buy.
A nice custom jacket and a new fishing pole for my dad.
A boat( My dad loves to fish, he even goes fishing in the winter XD)
A phone… I can’t have one till I’m 16… Ouch
My sister likes to sing, get her private lessons and a recording studio in our house.
I love music, I ended up teaching myself I’ll buy a, better quality Guitar, Viola, Violin, Piano, Trumpet, and Cello. Then instead of private lessons for my viola once a week why not twice?
I want to travel in my free time. Places i’ve always wanted to go:
Paris, Japan, Hong Kong, Sydney, Vietnam, Korea, Florida lol, England, Turkey
A I-pod touch, i always save up and buy something else XD
Bows and ribbons for my hair :3
A beautiful garden, with exotic plants that can survive where we live.
New furniture, ours is pretty outdated.
Painted portraits of our family.
Solar panels? If we buy a huge house might as well have the Sun powering it.
A collection of hats to sit on my pretty head XD
Robots? I mean the ones that you leave at your house to vacuum and stuff.
Dream rooms for everyone ![]()
A new Apple laptop, my Compaq laptop has been lagging and breaking down
And a lot more but yahoo has limits…

Charles asks…
What can we safely build on greenbelt land?
HI, Me and my partner have thought long and hard about this so please no lectures… Now to the fun part. We have decided that we are going to move out of our two bed semi and buy a small patch of land (under 1 acre) and live in a static caravan with maby some chickens and what not. Were fed up of the city life and want to see some more of the country.
So we have been looking for some land in west yorkshire close to where we are now but in the open a bit more. we have found a few plots and the one we like is green belt, now im not sure about this but i know we would have to get planning permission but what are the chances of getting it. we would want to put in gas/electric/sess pit and would need a hard standing base for the caravan maby a patch of tarmac or gravel to park the car and a fence.
What do you recon our chances are and would it help if we mentioned that we are looking to put in solar panels and a small wind turbine. The land is not next to houses and used to have a pumping station on it? any help would be ace thanks x
Can no one help me? x
adminsta answers:
Best place to start would be with the present owners. If a pumping station was on the land it will be Brownfield site and therefore your usage may be ok.
A lot will depend upon the state of the land is it in any way contaminated?
The current owners should know these details.
The link below will tell you more about Brownfield designated land

Michael asks…
how does electricity from a turbine get into the national grid?
turbines as in wind or water especially smaller sizes, for example a water turbine in a small river or leat that could contribute to a single house
adminsta answers:
Assuming that you are already familiar with the theory of electricity, This will be my simple answer by giving you an example.
It will depend on the type of generator output. For example, A small generator with an output of 115vac can be fed into the grid through your ordinary 115vac convenience outlet in your house provided, that you make sure that your generator is in exact phase and the voltage is slightly higher than the supply line.
Assuming that there are no loads or losses on the line, your generator output will travel in reverse or upward direction through the house meter (meter will be in reverse direction) and through the transformers along the lines and eventually end up in the power grid.

Maria asks…
I have oil central heating and want to move to ‘greener’ heating option. What system is the most econmical?
I am looking at wood pellet systems, ground source and air heat pumps, solar panels and wind turbines. Which of the above is the best/best combination? I want the house to be comfortable but also have the smallest heating bill possible whilst reducing carbon emissions.
adminsta answers:
Solar heating is huge in the U.K. And Ireland, which is proof that clouds do not necessarily stand in the way of efficiency. Solar heating is economical and enviro-friendly. Many areas are legislating against wood pellet burning devices because of emissions. There are solar systems that will heat your water and your rooms, and for less money than the installation of conventional electrically powered units. I am moviing to the country and will be looking into solar power for my home as well. Try going to BobVila.com for more info on solar heating just to get started.

Carol asks…
Will fridge run on inverter?
We have bought a westinghouse 310 litre fridge. Can someone please tell me if it will run on a 3,600 watt inverter, which is connected to a bank of 12 2 volt batteries that are being powered by 2 wind turbines and two solar panels. We are not connected to the grid, and our house is quite small, so we don’t use that much electricity. All help appreciated. Thanks!
adminsta answers:
I am going to guess that your refrigerator draws about 800 Watt, it probably draws less but that is a fair assumption. That would make the starting, also known as inrush or surge 4800 Watt. Your 3600 Watt inverter probably has a surge rating close to that. You are cutting it close. I would not do it because refrigerator compressor motors are not designed to operate off of inverters. Motors designed to be operated with inverters have additional insulation to take the switching. In plain English your compressor motor is going to be short lived.
If you wish to get around the problem you will need to put an isolation transformer between the inverter and power supply. You should then be fine. URL is to a transformer which could be used.
