Your Questions About Save Energy Google

Donald Your Questions About Save Energy Google

Donald asks…

Blackle saves how many % less energy than Google?

It says Blackle saves 750 mega-watts per year than Google. How much would that be percent-wise?

adminsta answers:

It’s actually debatable whether or not Blackle actually saves energy. The company itself may save energy because It’s just run off of one computer, versus Google that’s an entire company building. By using Blackle, you aren’t necessarily saving power. Most times you aren’t on Blackle or Google much anyways. And most monitors use just as much energy to show black, white, or colour.

James Your Questions About Save Energy Google

James asks…

Does blackle.com really save energy?

That website that’s just like google, does it really save energy?

adminsta answers:

I really don’t think it saves much if any energy since a monitor already has to be powered up on each and every pixle way before someone would access that site.
Thats why when you press the power button for your monitor its not instantly there. It takes a few seconds (depending on monitor) to power up.
Is there a site which blackle has the mathematical calculations for how this saves energy? I would like to see how they feel it saves energy.
Until then the answer is NO.
——-
After I got done writing the above I went looking for sites that might give the information or calculations and found one that you might want to look at.

He tests CRT and LCD monitors and shows specific results.

Ruth Your Questions About Save Energy Google

Ruth asks…

Have you ever known about blackle (energy saving search of google)?

First, the link : http://www.blackle.com
It shows the energy saved in watts.
I think it’s really good.

adminsta answers:

Never heard of it until now.

I figured it was a hoax but I just searched a bunch of pages to research “Blackle” and it seems like it is a good idea.

A couple of things to note. It doesn’t save much electricity on LCD screens and the electricity savings are likely way overstated on the website. However, I like the fact that every time you go to search you are forced to think of the concept and be reminded to be energy concious in your every day life.

Maria Your Questions About Save Energy Google

Maria asks…

Should I use Google or Blackle? Tho im really big on saving energy.?

I heard that http://www.blackle.com is just like Google‘s web search, but it saves energy. it already saved 1,288,219.969 Watt hours. it also looks better than google. (The whole screen is black)The weird thing is that its run by google. I’m also really big on saving the planet/energy/trees/peace. I just don’t know if it provides the same amount of accurate information as google or wikipedia does. I also read in seventeen magazine that 2 searches on google uses the same amount of energy as it takes to boil 2 cups of tea. is that true?

adminsta answers:

Shy is right you could always go outside and read, but about Blackle it only saves energy if you are using an older crt monitor but if as you said you prefer it then use it instead it has the same information.

adminsta answers:

Good call, black would be way better! YouTube on its own does not support all black for the entire site but you can try using this enhanced black Firefox add-on here and that could definitely work: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/12917

You can for sure change your YouTube home page background to whatever you like by following these steps:
Step 1
If you do not have a YouTube account, you will want to set one up. It’s easy to do and it’s free at http://www.youtube.com . If you have one set up, check out the next steps.
Step 2
Log into your YouTube account and go up to the top right corner where you see the Account drop menu. Click on the word Account without picking anything from the drop down menu. This opens up all of your information (Account Settings, preferences, favorites, subscriptions, subscribers, etc).
Step 3
Don’t let the option on the top of the right column, Customize YouTube, fool you. Scroll down the left column until you see My Channel. Under this listing, click on Channel Design.
Step 4
As you scroll, you will see from the top down; Select A Theme. When you chose a simple color scheme here, make sure it matches some of the photos you have stored onto your computer you want to use.
Step 5
Scroll down past Layout Properties onto Advanced Design Customization. This is the section you want to be in. Now, if you are a graphic designer of websites and understand the color codecs, you can enter them as you like to enhance the background. If not, you can chose the link that says Pick at each side of the colors to select. The codecs have already been configured by the YouTube staff. If you don’t want to bother doing this, it won’t affect how great your background will look.
Step 6
Above the color options is Background Image. This is where you upload any picture you have saved on your computer as your profile background. Click on “Upload” and a window will open with your files. Go through your files until you find your pictures and select the picture you would like to be set as your background.
Step 7
Since most pictures’ sizes aren’t the same as a profile page would be, you have the option to Repeat Background Image. This option is located under Background Image. If you would like your picture to cover the entire background, click YES to repeat the picture. This will cover the entire background of your YouTube profile giving it your personal touch.

Blackle.

Although, I found that if you use the element search engine instead of google, yahoo or msn it works the best, in fact a lot better. It combines google and ask. Also, you will randomly be rewarded points just for using it which you can redeem to prizes.

Blackle – Saving Energy One Small Step at a Time?

Blackle.com is a search engine, powered by google, and just like google, except it only does website searches rather than pictures, maps, etc.

The thing about Blackle.com is it saves energy and helps our environment because it takes more energy to show a white/light screen than a black/dark screen. So basically, if you use blackle instead of google you help save energy. Hey, it may not be a big difference, but if you spread the word and more people know, the small step can grow into a bigger help to save energy and help our planet.

I just wanted to get the word out about the site to more people, so the best answer will come from, what do you think, and are you going to switch to using blackle to help?
kcguy, I watched that video, and that wasn’t actually testing the energy the computer was using because of the page it was on, it was the computers charger, because the guy showed he was on a laptop. So that really just tested the computers charger.

adminsta answers:

Kcguy is right I’m afraid. This only works with CRT’s.

If you want to do eco friendly things with your computer, how about letting it run climate models for researchers in its spare time? It’s similar to SETI @ home, which you may have heard of. Check it out, I’ve been doing it for years:
