Sandy Your Questions About Wind Energy Turbines Cost

Sandy asks…

the costs of wind energy?

how much are wind turbines. (not home turbines but the large towers who sell energy to the public). I am sure they are very costly but I was wondering how expensive

adminsta answers:

Very large ones are generally over 1 mill.

James Your Questions About Wind Energy Turbines Cost

James asks…

I can see 30 wind turbines from my house but I have never seen them all working at once?

Can these ever be cost efective or even repay all the energy it costs to build and maintain them?
At least our wind turbines are out in the sea 3 miles off shore so not an eyesore.

adminsta answers:

It’s because the “heads” of the turbines are set at different angles to catch winds as they change directions, so only some of the turbines will turn at a time. The wind has to catch the blades of the turbine to turn it. Try blowing on a childs windmill from different directions and you’ll see.

Helen Your Questions About Wind Energy Turbines Cost

Helen asks…

solar/wind energy question?

I have a small holding in quite a remote area & want to install wind or solar energy to cut the costs. I dont aim to be fully independant of the grid but just want to produce enough(perhaps only in summer if solar) to make a saving……how can i do this? I dont have a lot of money & ive been told that solar panels & wind turbines are expensive….any advice? I live in Eastern Europe( Slovakia)
The problem is that I am not a Slovak ( so am unsure how I would stand applying for government money) & renewable energy is a very new concept here. can you buy used solar & wind equipment? Is there a website that deals with this sort of thing?

adminsta answers:

There is no way to store AC power.

Joseph Your Questions About Wind Energy Turbines Cost

Joseph asks…

Proponents of decentralized enegy products say that we can produce our own energy. True?

Can you get zoning to put a wind mill in your back yard? Will you spend $50,000 for a wind turbine?
That is 333 average months for me. If you get a tax break, then that just means you will pay more taxes or you are depending on others to pay your bill for you. Will you let your neighbor put one up?

What percentage of our country is actually viable for solar energy? It is viable in the SW but is not very productive elsewhere. The cost for a Solar solution is almost the same as a wind turbine. Big Windows or an atrium is the only cheap method, but then you need to cool more in the summer.

Charles Your Questions About Wind Energy Turbines Cost

Charles asks…

So called green energy is costing you an extra £300 a year are you happy about this?

Most of this money is going to the greedy developers who are putting up wind turbines and solar panels both of which are a blot on the landscape. Green energy has just become the goose that lays the golden egg for these people.

adminsta answers:

The boffins, the so called experts who preach doom on behalf of the government and the “get rich quicker” needed another excuse to rip the customers off, with an offering of “Global warming”
Funny that, as we just had the coldest summer for many a year. No doubt those green finger merchants will say, that it is all part of this “global warming”, my arse.
Energy companies have reached the stage of not having to answer to no-one and the government sit back, because they too are coining in on this big “con” with their VAT.
Solar panels as such will take you at least 25 years before they actually become useful to the householder. I would suggest that most customers by then would have frozen to death anyhow, because of cost of keeping warm.

Mandy Your Questions About Wind Energy Turbines Cost

Mandy asks…

why are wind turbines so expensive?

is sea energy any cheaper? how much does one “wave dragon” cost?

adminsta answers:

Wind turbines aren’t expensive.
Assuming they cost 2 million each (very common figure), and realizing that modern windmills can generate 2.5-4 (sometimes even 5) megawatts of power EACH (enough for over 3000 homes), that puts their construction cost at about $800-500 per kW. See ranking below for comparason:
$500-800/ kW for Wind
$1000-2000 kW for Nuclear
$1300/ kW for Tidal (essentialy what a “wave dragon” is)
$1300/ kW for Coal
$1700/ kW for Hydro
$5000/ kW Solar

It’s easy to see, wind is cheaper by a lot.

Paul Your Questions About Wind Energy Turbines Cost

Paul asks…

An argument about cutting down on the worlds resources whatever the cost?

I need information:
* Why should people do this, what will happen if they don’t?
* Any alternative methods e.g an explanation of different energy sources such as wind turbines, how will they benefit?

Just a few points needed, I’ll write this myself but could do with someones ideas to start me off and give me inspired. Thanks in advance

adminsta answers:

If we don’t change the way we use resources and try to live in a sustainable manner the world as we know it will end!
The earth only has so much resources and if we continue at the current rate these resources may run out. Non-renewable resources such as fossil fuels, land etc. Should be used less and more efficiently and renewable resources like water and plants should be used more.
The planets human population is always increasing and even basic things like food are becoming scarcer.
Some day when the planet has too many people some of us may go to other planets, like Mars
