World’s largets wind turbine: Enercon E-126 produces 6MW of energy. Smaller ones usually 1-3MW.
Find the average power consumption of a single person and multiply that by 122,000 and divide by the energy produced by one turbine of your choice.

Question by Bman: Why hasn’t some organisation offered payment for a contest to make the most effecient vertical wind turbine?

If vertical wind turbines could be made thin enough and effecient enough, they could be placed on house rooftops and be very discrete (maybe only about 12 inch tall and 12 feet diameter). A top plate could conceal the spinnig blades. The contest could require that the turbines have a max area, max height, and must work for a certain amount of time (months?). On the start date, entrants would build their turbines on a specific site. The organisation(s) sponsoring the contest would get the rights to the generated electricity. The group with the most effecient turbine after the time frame would win the prize money. Entrants would also pay to enter. I think this would be a great opportunity for many engineering universities and for the organisation(s) sponsoring it. It could also lead to MANY new “rooftop” turbine concepts that could help power individual homes, without having the large “windmill tower”. Maybe a similar concept could be used for the most effecient solar panel?
I am talking about a “Savonius Wind Turbine” type…. Google for pictures. It has a vertical axis and the wind turns the blades from the side. But apparently, there is not a “perfect” design for the blades, hence the contest.

Some companies charge a higher rate for their renewable energy plan as compared with their “conventional” plan. Some others are just the opposite.
If you are staying with the same electric company, you can compare the rate $ /kWH between your existing plan and the wind energy plan. You should call them and ask what other rate are available. Most companies have contracts of 6 month, 1 year and longer. If you commit to it, the rate can be different. Just like the mobile phone company, an early termination of the contract would cause penalty.
There are other charges but since you plan on staying with the same company, they probably is there in your current bill anyway. Many electric companies do not show you all the rate, plans available. You have to keep asking and you will get the whole picture. Also, if your state has more than one electric companies, check them all. Don’t assume your current one has the lowest wind power rate. Installing Windmill And Solar Power Electricity Generation Units In Your Home Has Never Been As Easy Or As Cheap

Electricity generation from home is fast becoming the buzzterm of the millenium. With the cost of fuel set to eventually return to, and perhaps surpass, the prices we saw in 2008, we need to prepare for a corresponding rise in our monthly electricity bills. Next winter could be a long cold one for many people, not to mention the state of the economy.

To counter this potential burden on their monthly expenses many are turning to green power, renewable energy which we can find right on all of our doorsteps.

We’re talking about solar energy, power from our sun, and wind energy, harnessed by those hypnotic windmills we see popping up in more and more locations around us.

What may come as a surprise to most is that setting up a solar power generator or a windmill generator in your home is not at all difficult or costly, and you can get all the parts you need from your local hardware store.

Many are starting to do this electricity generation themselves to help reduce their power bills, and do their bit for the planet.

The benefits are actually more than meets the eye.

For example, what not many realize is that you can ‘sell’ power to the national grid in just the same way as ‘buying’ it when you consume it as electricity with your household appliances.

When you install renewable power sources and the amount you install exceeds your household requirements, your excess power with trickle back up to the power station and you get paid the going rate.

Wind turbines and windmills need to be as high up as possible as the wind is more likely to be stronger higher up than nearer the ground. Failing that, anywhere that receives a consistent breeze would do the trick.

Hey Yahoo, I just made a basketball article about the NBA’s Miami HEAT and I need your help. Is my grammar horrible? Is it good? Or it’s just alright — not good, but not that bad either and there’s still room for improvement?

MY ARTICLE: (Its about the game Miami played and I compiled youtubes and made some captions)

Was that actually the Miami Heat playing? Or was that the Harlem Globetrotters?

It certainly looked that way. Either way, the Heat bounced back a night after losing to the undefeated Hornets, beating the New Jersey Nets 89-101 on their home floor Saturday night.

The Big Three led the show, with Dwyane Wade tallying 29 Points and 10 Rebounds, LeBron James recording 23 Points and 9 Assists, and Chris Bosh adding 21 Points and 5 Rebounds.

New Jersey played way better than the Heat expected, sticking into the game early on. At one point, New Jersey even owned a 12-5 lead, but Miami eventually recovered to take the driver’s seat. The teams were only separated by 4 points during halftime.

That’s when Miami exploded for a huge run to establish enough cushion — mainly led by superstar LeBron James.

James scored 14 of his 23 points in the third, including an impressive outburst where he scored 7 points in 32 seconds after being fouled hardly by Terrence Williams, as Miami cruised on for its 5th victory of the season.

Miami had plenty of Globetrotter-esque highlights throughout the game. HoopsHardcore breaks them down one by one.

Is this a typo? Nah. Wade capped off another great defensive team outing by highlighting the show with a huge block on Nets Center Brook Lopez. It’s the second time Lopez got blocked by Wade, with the first encounter occurring last January 2009.

I want to make residential wind power for my home.

I live in a built up area so I cannot have one of those massive things spinning around in my backyard.

I want to make one of those smaller windmills I always see on roof tops? Anybody have some instructions for me?
