These days there is no reason to put up with soaring electricity costs. You can easily make your own windmill and slash your utility costs significantly or even eliminate them altogether. All your windmill parts can be found in a salvage yard and should only run you roughly 0.

Understand that most average sized home windmills are a fairly straight forward design. If you’re and “average” person with basic construction abilities and a willingness to follow directions, then you can definitely build your own windmill. The larger turbines over 1000 Watts are a bit more complicated. Start off with a design under 1000 Watts. You can always build another one if you need additional electricity.

A small DC motor, tower, blades and base are the basic elements of a home windmill. You can even use common materials found in any scrap yard. An old sewing machine can provide you with the motor you need.

Tower height is an important factor to consider. The higher your structure, the more wind turbulence it can harvest. You’ll get much better performance and power output. You can also quadruple your wind harvesting power simply by doubling the size of your rotor blades.

Ordering a pre-made kit is another option for you. But your costs will be considerably higher. Expect to pay anywhere from 0 up to 00 or more.

The plans you decide to follow can make a huge difference. For some reason, the majority of plans I’ve seen are way more complicated than they need to be and this discourages people from making their own windmill. Keep things simple, there’s no reason to turn this into rocket science. Professional
blueprints will be clear and concise without leaving any steps out. With a little ambition and the ability to follow instructions, you’ll be enjoying free electricity in no time.

So how do you find windmill plans that are practical and realistic for the “average” person? After sorting through dozens of confusing and vague guides, I’ve chosen what I believe are your 3 best options. Go to Make Your Own Windmill to read my reviews. Most of these windmills can easily be built using common materials that cost under 0.

Question by Bman: Why hasn’t some organisation offered payment for a contest to make the most effecient vertical wind turbine?

If vertical wind turbines could be made thin enough and effecient enough, they could be placed on house rooftops and be very discrete (maybe only about 12 inch tall and 12 feet diameter). A top plate could conceal the spinnig blades. The contest could require that the turbines have a max area, max height, and must work for a certain amount of time (months?). On the start date, entrants would build their turbines on a specific site. The organisation(s) sponsoring the contest would get the rights to the generated electricity. The group with the most effecient turbine after the time frame would win the prize money. Entrants would also pay to enter. I think this would be a great opportunity for many engineering universities and for the organisation(s) sponsoring it. It could also lead to MANY new “rooftop” turbine concepts that could help power individual homes, without having the large “windmill tower”. Maybe a similar concept could be used for the most effecient solar panel?
I am talking about a “Savonius Wind Turbine” type…. Google for pictures. It has a vertical axis and the wind turns the blades from the side. But apparently, there is not a “perfect” design for the blades, hence the contest.

Presumably because they are happy with the current designs

“maybe only about 12 inch tall and 12 feet diameter”

Since when does wind fall vertically from the skies like rain does?

and even if it did, this next bit kills that

“Advantages and Disadvantages of Home Windmill Generators”

Advantages and Disadvantages of Home Windmill Generators

Setting up a windmill generators for the home you do not need professional help; individuals can easily set them up with the help of guides that are available on line. The components of a windmill generators for the home are also easily available in the open market.

Advantages of wind generators for the home: When comparing  the good characteristics of wind generator for the home, the Disadvantages are insignificant but it is important to know about the them along with the Advantages.

Always remember that ‘it is better to be safe than sorry’. wind generators for the home are space consuming, therefore, you will require enough free space on your property to install it.

Its effective operation is totally dependant upon the revolving blades, therefore, you will have to grease the bearings periodically in order to get the best performance. And of course, wind generators for the home are based on the existence of wind, therefore wind is required for their operation.

As this seems a silly thing to say you’d be surprised at how many people do not understand the amount of wind that is required to opperate a wind generator.
I have found that an average of 8 miles per Hour will get the job done.

Getting your windmill high enough off of the ground and free from interferance of other buildings and trees is a real inportant factor in it’s correct opperation.

Advantages of wind generators:

Well of course the main one is free electricty on demand. You will very quickly come to enjoy the freedom of no utility bills. This is becomeing more and more important as the cost of energy goes up and like most thing once it goes up it never seems to come down

Other advantages or no brown outs or black outs depending on were you live this can real be an advantage, while your nabors and freinds are sittingin the dark with wondering when the power will come back on the  food in your refrigerator is not going to spoil you’ve got heat or aircinditioning and your not running around looking for batteries for everything.

How about when that big storm blows through, yes you have to take your generator down for a while but as soon as mother nataure gets done your back in business with maybe the only power for miles around. You’ve seen enough of this with ice storm, blizzards, huricains and tornadoes. While everybody else is sitting a round cold and in the dark your family is going to think your a pretty smart person.

Another advantage is if your making more power than you need you can sell the overage back to the power company this will help offset any cost you’ve had getting your wind solar power set up and running This a nice benifit while your freinds and family are complaining about the high cost of utilites your making money not bad hu?

As there are tax advantages both state and federal in some areas and the possibilty of grants to get you up and runing I really don’t see much in the way of a down side to haveing your owne windmill generator for your home.

With the material you can find on line and the support thats availible you don’t need to be a mechanical geious to get going and with a little planning and shopping you can keep your cost down and maybe have your windmill generator up and running in a weekend.

Now don’t get me wrong there are other things you’ll need to know to become solar energy free but if you can read and whatch videos you can get all the information you need.

Don’t let things like deep cycle batteries or power convertors deture you I just about gurantee once your up and running your going to be very happy with your self for doing it.

I think it was President Roosevelt “that said the only thing you have to fear is fear itself”

I think I’ve at least opened the door for you about the

Windmill Generator Plans – Save Money, Save the Planet

Building your own wind turbine to create your own alternative energy source is a very viable option these days. If you are a do-it-yourselfer you are probably ready to jump on the band wagon and get started. The first step to take is to track down a set of windmill generator plans that will provide you with all the direction you need to take you through this project. It is very expensive to buy a readymade windmill, but fortunately, a DIY wind turbine is very easy and inexpensive to construct.

You may already know that a manufactured residential windmill would cost in the neighborhood of ,000 to purchase. Windmill generator plans will cost you only around . And to make it even more doable, the parts for the windmill can be purchased at your local hardware store or home improvement center for less than 0.

To make this project even more doable, the tools required are nothing out of the ordinary either. Most people with a home tool box already have all the tools they need. This is such a worthwhile project to undertake. Not only will you be saving yourself money, you will be having a positive impact on the environment.

It could take you decades to recoup the cost of a commercial windmill, while the cost of a DIY windmill will be recouped within a few months of installing it. There is also a tax deduction allowed by the IRS for utilizing alternative energy sources

How much electricity your windmill will generate is pretty much predicated upon how large it is and how much wind it will get where it is constructed. We have all seen those giant wind turbines on the windfarms. They produce electricity that is measured in megawatts. In other words, enough to power up an entire neighborhood.

For home use, you don’t need nearly that much power. Generally, a residential wind power generator will provide the homeowner with a significant percentage of their home use needs. Normally, they will need to supplement it at times.

Building a residential wind power generator using windmill generator plans will create energy that can then be stored in a battery for future use. There are always times when the wind is not blowing, but that does not mean you cannot use energy generated by your windmill.  You will be able to tap into that energy whenever you need it and you will see a significant reduction in your utility bill each month.

The wind does not always blow and the sun does not always shine. This is the one drawback to this type of energy source. But the ability to store energy during the time that the wind is blowing and the sun is shining makes these alternative energy sources a viable option.

Don’t delay. If you are seriously interested in saving money by generating your own power, you will want to purchase windmill generator plans and get started creating your own electricity. It won’t be long until you notice your utility bill begin to shrink. And if you’re really ambitious, you could add a second windmill and generate all the power you need!

Question by Chiranth Nadig: What should i do in this condition?

See.. I participated in a Science Fair in our school and we had to do a project on wind energy. It was a group of like 6 members and they made me the leader. I invited them over to my house like 4 weeks b4 the fair.
They just came and wasted my time. There was one whom i felt comfortable with so i called him only! We did our work on time when suddenly another just came in and changed all the plans this like 6 days before the fair. We did according to his. It was okay i would give it 2.5/5.0.
On the fair day we had to explain it to a guest and then to the people. When i was explaining to the guest the wing broke off!!! It was so embarrassing.
I felt sad and went home without explaining anything. First of all, i didn’t like the group in which i was put in because no one listened to me(the Leader) and had STUPID ideas. They bullied over me when i tried to tell them. So i avoided only those. Was that the right thing to do???
There are 6 including me. One is useless and one is in a hostel. One’s house is very very far so he could come only on weekends. If i called the other 2(excluding the one whom i felt comfortable with) they wasted time, had no manners and acted as if it is their own house.
Anyway that’s all over, they fixed the windmill but i still feel embarrassed to sit in front of it and have people laugh at it. So what should i do??????

Best answer:

Answer by Johannie
Don’t do anything. Wait for time to pass, and people will forget and it will be less embarrassing. It’s hard to be the leader and motivate and manage people. Next time you have to all agree in the very beginning what you will do for the project. If one person wants to change their mind, tell them “Tough! We already agreed, we are NOT changing things now.” Then you assign people different parts. Then keep asking them about their progress. If one person won’t do their share, you will have to do it, but let the teacher know they didn’t participate.

You have to pretend to listen to stupid ideas. And don’t be so stuck up, everyone is wrong sometimes. BTW they are called windblades or windmill sails- not ‘wings’.

Better Luck in the future.

Windmill Electricity ? The Most Cost Effective Option And Facts Revealed

For anyone who is researching windmill electricity as an alternative source for home energy, you need firstly to be assessing whether it is suitable for your individual needs and requirements.  Whilst windmill electricity can be a relatively cheap option to implement, it is essential to consider whether or not you will recoup your initial investment.

When considering any alternative home energy system, you must ensure it will not take you an unrealistic amount of time to recoup your investment as this will otherwise be counterproductive not only in your quest to save energy at home but more importantly, to save money.

Before any money is spent on Windmill Electricity, there are serious considerations which need to be thought through first. The most important of these are that you must ensure that your home energy requirements are met and that you can build a system which can equally match these requirements.

As a great starting point, have a look at the immediate area in which you live and ask yourself if you have the required wind resources available. It’s a common fact that certain parts of any country are better placed than others to utilize windmill electricity. If you are lucky enough to live in an area close to the coast for example, you will probably find that you are slightly better placed than someone who lives inland. If you live in the United States, the government has a website which has wind maps available for anyone to view which will show you how windy your particular part of the country is compared to other areas. This is a great resource but please do not be put off using windmill electricity if you live in an area that is not considered too favourable. It may well be quite realistic to utilize wind energy for your home but it may just be a little bit more of a challenge.

Another good point to make here is to see if the wind energy which is around you can be used for home energy. The general theory is that you must put up a wind turbine above tree level and above any buildings which are close by but this is an absolute nonsense. Provided you can mount your home windmill as high as you can possibly and safely install it and it is gaining the maximum wind power available then it will be absolutely fine.

BIG INCENTIVE – Here’s a great big incentive which believe it or not, many people are not even aware of.

Depending on how much you spend on your home windmill, you may be eligible for a local tax rebate if you live in the US! This means that if you live in a part of the United States, you could make your own home windmill at an even further reduced cost and have a tax reduction. Together with the savings which you will make on your home electricity bill, this could virtually wipe out your total build costs which are very moderate to begin with! It is well worth exploring this further as each state will have its own laws and regulations but you would be a fool not to enquire.

With electric prices on a constant increase, more and more people are turning their efforts to the DIY home energy market as ways to save energy and money. Right now it is a great time to explore new and innovative ways for home energy and one of the most cost effective options by far is windmill electricity.

Hollywood Stars Catch Home Windmill Fever

Article by Guy Williams

Hollywood Stars Catch Home Windmill Fever

Home windmills are getting more popular every day and now Hollywood stars are getting on the bandwagon. Once used exclusively in agriculture, windmills are now recognised as efficient tools to harness wind energy and produce electricity.

Tonight show star Jay Leno has installed a windmill on his famous garage. Leno’s home windmill is capable of producing 10 kilowatts of electricity at a wind speed of 28 miles an hour and has a cut-in wind speed of 6 miles per hour. Leno has said he plans to supplement the windmill with solar panels to help further reduce electricity costs.Hollywwod veteran Ed Begley, Jr.is also part of the wind energy movement. Begley’sinvolvement actually dates back over two decades. Begley first got involved way back in 1985 when he became part owner of a southern California wind farm. Still in operation, the wind farmtoday sells electricity to a local utility company.

At his home in Studio City, California Begley also utilizes not only wind power but solar energy as well. Two slates of 117 solar panels and a home windmill will usually generate enough power for his 1,700-square-foot home with two bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths. “No coal, no nuclear,” Begley, 57, is proud to say. “I can go sometimes for weeks not going over to the grid.” No stranger to the green movement, Begley also bought an electric carback in 1970, and conserves water by catching rain water in barrels to water his garden.

If you are thinking about installing a home windmill to help lower your electricity billsyou may be in for a shock when you learn how much the manufacturers are sellingtheir pre-made “windmill kits” for. Of course if you’re a Hollywood celebrity price is no object. But for average people it is a major stumbling block.

With the large upfront investment required to buy a home windmill, many people cannotjustify the expense, considering that recovering their money spent initially will taketoo long to recover in terms of savings.

Thousands of people worldwide have found there is an alternative to the expensive windmills sold by the manufacturers. Most people are pleasantly surprised when theylearn they can build a home windmill themselves for a surprisingly low price. Contraryto what many believe, building an affordable wind energy generator is much easier than youmight ever have imagined.

Using common tools found in every household, anyone with even average mechnical skillscan easily build and install a home windmill. As is the case for any project, thebetter informed you are the greater the chances for success. With proper guidanceand knowledge building an efficient home windmill system is now within the reach ofanyone.
